*Sigh* It's winter break, again... and I've been compelled by the holiday spirit (or Rex) to post... Seeing as how I'm supposed to be "entertaining" I thought I'd post my feelings about Christmas.
So yes, Christmas is here, the season for giving, a time for family and friends to gather and show their appreciation. A time especially significant to Christians, it's the time the Lord and Savior came to earth as a tiny baby born in a stable. A time for forgiveness and reconciliation. A time to love and be loved... Christmas is all of these things. But, what happened? When did Christmas move into Macy's? If Christmas is
really about love and Jesus and family, why is the biggest stress placed on what you get for someone and what you get from them? People always complain about the commercialization of the holidays. Oh, and what's with that? "Happy Holidays." BAH! This isn't the "holidays" it's Christmas, for goodness' sake! Christ-mas. I'm quite certain all the Wal-Mart employees can muddle through that one. Granted, Hanukah is a holiday that's being celebrated at this same time, but c'mon. How many people go out to Wal-Mart to buy Hanukah presents? Really now. And don't even get me started on Kwanzaa. I've never heard of a sadder excuse for a holiday. Who are they to talk about Christmas being a "white holiday"? I'm sorry, but have you ever seen a Southern Baptist church? I rest my case. Now back to Christmas, yeah, it's commercialized and blown way out of proportion by society and yadda yadda, but it still brings families together once a year, and reminds us of what we're all here for... and isn't that the point of Christmas after all?
Merry Christmas...
